Ok, we have used this app for 3 years now. My child hates it. But, here’s why: it makes him work. This app doesn’t really ‘teach’. As the parent/educator, that work falls to you. What the app does is provide a progressive workbook like structure to practice the skills you are learning, be it possessive nouns or 2 digit multiplication. When you get an answer incorrect, it provides the correct answer and then goes on to explain the rule or principle behind reaching the correct answer. Then, and this is why I believe it has garnered ill will - it will make the student go back and practice more questions. Adaptive learning. The more you miss, the further back on the completion bar you go. Which a paper textbook can’t do. So yeah, if the child can slog through a subject he doesn’t understand fully and simply ‘move on’ to the next topic and forget about it - sure that would probably be easier. But, with this app, you can’t fake it. If my child begins to struggle and is slipping back, I know I need to stop the app, take a break, then provide further instruction before he tackles it again. The app is a great, no nonsense workhorse of an app. Mum approved! :-)

To IXL Inc. Will not make sense to you if you do not have the app. If you want my recommendation, get the app. What I don’t like about ixl is that it kicks you back so much points when you get one wrong. Thats not helping a kid. Thats almost like punishing one. Which is bad. Also plz make the explanations shorter, or at least pause the time when the kid is on the sorry incorrect page. Fix this on the app and website please. Also can you do limited questions? For example the activity has 8 questions, and if you get one wrong, you keep going and then you will get 7/8 but then you can redo. Kind of like challenges on social studies 🗺 🌎 and science 🧬 🧪 but it doesn't say “oh no, you didn't pass the challenge!” it just gives you the grade. Also please do challenges for math and language arts before you make the other changes, if you even read this. Thank you!!!! P.S. Can you make a package with all subjects, including spanish, with the price lower than if you were to get the 4 core subjects + spanish? Thx!!

Ixl a very strange game to speak about some people absolutely love it while others hate it I went through reviews and seen one star then five star over and over some people argue that it is a simple and working game while other think it is a increative waste off time I don’t believe either of those statements it’s not award winning but it’s not absolutely trash it has a few redeeming qualities but also things that hold it back from becoming a better game on the good side setting children back can help them try harder but also can make them feel like they will never get it done the levels are uncreative and monountous they can also refrain from distractions but this keeps kids uninterested o could have math mini games mixed in toast least keep kids entertained. The style of the game is cute but boring it’s simple but too simple not in the cute way with more effort this gam could be great it just needs a push in the right direction
  • Does IXL NEED to be a app?

Hey, I’m not a real big fan of IXL. In fact, it’s so horrible, I would give it negative 5 stars if I could. Every time I try a level, I end up getting like, “yay! I am at 99 points and the total is 100!” But then you get the last question wrong so I’m back at 81 points! The hate it when that happens. Plus, if people hate it so much, then would you be playing when your at calculus? Because there is a ENTIRE column for that stupid thing! And in one column there are about a million levels. Plus, you know how in the 3rd grade levels the limit is 31 questions? And if a question is wrong it COUNTS as a question? Well, I learned it the hard way because once I had so many questions wrong, that I had 69 questions before. And please, just please with raspberry on top, FIX IXL!!! P.S. the point: DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH IXL❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️ P.S # 2 the worst/stupidest/dumbest app EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I added this in my review: once it took me 5 hours for 1 level and it took, well, guess what? 122 questions.

IXL is one of the most disgusting and awful apps ever created in the universe. I have been doing the exact same problem for the past hour four minutes and 56 seconds. I was at 99 points and I got it wrong then it dropped me back to 81 points this is absolutely awful showing kids that they’re not good enough, lowering their self-esteem and even creating depression and anxiety. I would not recommend this app for anybody it has definitely not been helping me. It’s been laying me back making me more anxious. I’m just not happy it’s just not a good app to have. When my teacher assigns homework on IXL I’m just not happy about it and never ever want to do it because it is not fun ever even when you are doing good. Anyway I definitely don’t like this app and I have enough hatred for it to the point where I am leaving a bad review that is definitely a paragraph long and giving it a one star rating. I hate this and will definitely not continue to use it.

I am a mom to a 17yr old Highschool senior and a 10year old 5th grader. My youngest has ADHD,aspergers, sensory disorder, he only started speaking when he was 3years old and did speech therapy for 2years. He had to play catch up when we moved from Africa to the U.S as he was behind for his age. Along with home schooling and IXL he has gotten all the help that he needs on a daily basis. We are able to review material given in class and he has so much fun. He has been on the honor roll for the last 2 years and is doing amazing. Thank you to the people who created this tool, it is a lifesaver and it also keeps children like my son with short attention span engaged and excited to finish so that they can their prize.
  • How IXL helped me

In school, as a student, I was always pretty annoyed with IXL. At first, I hated it. Nobody liked it. So, if I didn't like it, then why am I giving it a five star review? I am because it helped me learn so much throughout the two years that I used it. (Two years, coming on three) I didn't and don't enjoy it, but it really helps me understand the subject. It doesn't only give me easy questions... It gets harder as I go. These people that are complaining a lot about it, I get that. I respect other's opinions. I just think that it is very useful, and I'm not just winging it when I get to the test. After using IXL, I find myself actually knowing what I am doing, and that's what will help me succeed! Thanks, IXL! A student, Mary W.
  • IXL, there’s a lot you must fix.

This App is really something else, I happen to know a few people that call it IXHELL. It’s a pretty good description, however the way you are supposedly “learning” with this App is done completely WRONG. First of all, making mistakes are fine, you should not be punished for making a mistake, you should be taught what you did wrong and get a second chance. Second, all the kids here are speaking the truth consider that they are doing it, that they experience what the App is like, and indeed it is IXHELL. And finally, turn this into something that is truely enjoyable and not a cruel form of torture that parents and teachers hand out to children on the norm, there is so many better things to do than spending your waking hours getting frustrated over some numbers. Children should be going outside and reading a book instead of being forced to do this rubbish. ~From a concerned Adult

This app is a great way to torture students. You are punished severely for getting one question wrong and rewarded less and less as you progress. For example, a student could be at a score of eighty, getting two points for every correct answer, but one slip up could potentially bring them down to a score of sixty. Frustration should not take the front seat when learning a new skill or practicing an old one, and with the many bugs that also plague this app, it would be better to hand out worksheets. I am a student that has struggled with math for a while, and I can say for a fact that putting math on an electronic device has made my grades plummet and my understanding abandon me. Just a tip for a few teachers; do not get this app to hand out homework. Get a worksheet or a math packet. That is just my personal opinion.
  • Love this for my math students!!

It allows each child to receive the right number of problems for their ability. Those who understand move quickly through the problems. Those who need more help receive more questions. If a child makes a mistake, the app takes them back down to a level where they were successful, then advances back up to where they failed. Even my students tell me they love it! They know right away whether they are correct or incorrect! Immediate feedback is sooo helpful!!!
