I almost never write reviews, but Word Reference is such a wonderful app that I thought I’d write this little blurb. I’ve used WR for years. It’s like having a language course on your phone. I’m primarily focused on Spanish (although as of this writing I count 15 language dictionaries that are included in the app). You can look up words and have them translated with multiple meanings and subtleties included - even short phrases and expressions that include the word. Perhaps best of all is that you can tap a little arrow next to verbs and complete conjugation of the verb will be provided - everything from the indicative to the past present subjunctive and negative imperative. Good for us language nerds who actually strive to use the correct grammar and hope to some day be truly fluent in a language. The designers of this app are real scholars who have done an enormous amount of work. Thank you to them.

Word Reference is incredible - no more paper dictionaries to pack around. I can search a word in Italian or easily switch to English. It gives definitions with sample sentences in both languages; has a section for compound forms of the word, including idiomatic usage; and gives verb conjugation, among other features. It is also my go-to English dictionary. Can’t say enough good things about this app!

This is my absolute go-to dictionary and I require that my students use it instead of Google translate. I love that I can "favorite" certain terms, but how nice would it be if we could make those into flash cards, or make it so you can easily create a file that could be transferred to Quizlet?

I have used the webpage for many years to assist translation. The forum has also been very helpful for context. Occasionally I don’t find what I’m looking for, but that’s very rare. Now I’m so happy to have it in app form. WordReference is one of the few free products that I would definitely pay for if I couldn’t have it free.

The most comprehensive language tool with both translation and conjugation capabilities. In translating words it give multiple uses and interpretations as well as examples in sentences. Verb conjugation is complete showing all tenses , modes and voices. This is an indispensable tool for the serious language learner.

Ample vocabulary, including both words and meanings common in the vernacular of various Spanish-speaking countries. Easy to navigate too! Not quite as good at translating words found in 18th & 19th century Spanish literature that are no longer in use today.
  • Excellent and thorough

This is one of the best apps for french. It not only provides definitions but different forms of the word and idioms! I bought the Rousseau app before I found this one and this is so much better and the only one I use!

I only gave this five stars because I couldn't give it six. I use wordreference every day (both the app and the website) and I don't know what I would do without it.
