I have used this app twice and have had some very unprofessional people come by to try and do the job. I had a stair guy tell me he couldn’t get into the building and after waiting 30 mins for him and calling him I walked around the building to find his vehicle and him nowhere. After waiting another 30 minutes I left and went about my day. He called me later to tell me I didn’t show up for the appointment and when I told him I saw his truck he said he locked his keys and phone in the truck and couldn’t respond to my calls. This is just the tip of the iceberg. The most recent plumber came within 30 mins of posting the job and while fixing the problem left to go to his truck and thankfully I was aware that when he disconnected the house from the dishwasher he failed to shut the water off and the kitchen started flooding. After he tried to blame my wife for not turning the dishwasher off I told him to just finish the job of which he charged me $400 for 1 hours worth of work and wouldn’t provide me with any bill or what exactly I was paying for. As soon as he left the house I cancelled the check and am still waiting for a bill which I will determine if I will pay since I had to clean up the water, clean up after his work, and then dispose of his trash and left behind supplies. Last time trying this.
  • Handy man.

I am a 1st time user of Home Advisor & had no previous experience or hearsay from friends-just a happy accident I found them. After reading reviews, I choose Ali Shadian as a handyman, because he had all 5 star reviews. (Many reviews). He called me the next morning & gave me recent people he had worked for, & I called them & they were all exceedingly happy with his work. He stopped by that day & I went over a list of items needed doing. I really liked him & he seemed easy going & capable of doing the job. I decided to have him do one task first, to see how he worked out. We have solid core, paneled, interior doors, that had been chipped & scratched & needed repairing & painting. He had professional equipment & did an excellent job! He had a electric sander & professional paint sprayer . Next he redid my mailbox on the street. Here he did creative & excellent work. He showed up on time & had great work habits: cleaned up after he was done, & was eager to do a top job. I plan on having him do other jobs for me. Home advisor called me every day to see how things were going. I was surprised on how well they follow up, to be sure the client is happy with the work being done. All in all, a very excellent experience.

Due to a wind storm, some of my vinyl siding came off, as well as the aluminum below a second story half moon window. Called my insurance & they gave me an estimate of what it should cost to fix, which I thought was low and of course was below my deductible!!! I honestly had no clue who would do this type of smallish job and saw an advertisement for Home Advisor. Figured what the heck, is give them a try! It was a Sunday afternoon when I entered my name, address & the problem I was having. By Monday at noon I had 3 calls, one from each of the contractors they recommended!! But by 11 am one of the recommended contractors had been here already, given me an estimate and had contracted with them to do the job on Wednesday that same week!!!!!! Note that the estimate was right in line with what my insurance said it would be, which made me extremely happy! The job has been completed to my complete satisfaction. I would absolutely recommend Home Advisor to anyone looking for a contractor. Great service and the contractors they recommended did great work!!!
  • Rating the app, NOT the pro

I’m not sure why so many reviewers are such idiots- if you want to review the app, you do it here. To review the contractor you hired *from* the app, do it from that person’s/ company’s page *in* the app... it’s not HomeAdvisor calling you to check on the service, it’s the company you contracted with! It’s not HomeAdvisor setting the time of service, or calling to remind you, IT’S THE COMPANY YOU HIRED!!!! Seriously, how do you people make it thru the day without an ounce of intelligence or common sense? The app seems to work well so far, have several projects I’m trying to contract out, & HomeAdvisor helps me keep everything straight in my head, from which companies are contacting me for which project. I’d like it if I could delete companies I don’t hire, easily add a company to my contacts from the app, & to be able to add appts to calendar from the app. Otherwise, does what it should, WHICH IS TO CONNECT ME TO A CONTRACTOR OR COMPANY that can complete jobs around the house, & to collect reviews from others, about those companies, & list them so I can do research before inviting ppl i don’t know into my home.

Within seconds of entering my info in this app the phone started ringing with high pressure sales people on the other end. We are looking to replace 13 windows and we were matched with Sears who is $2k higher than any estimate I’ve gotten on my own, and a second company. The second company, ImproveIt, has horrible ratings everywhere BUT on this app. The high pressure crap started from second 1 on the phone, both myself and my husband must be present...I explained 4 different times that this was not possible and finally just left it at “whatever.” They called again today to confirm an appointment for tomorrow and advised me it is their company policy that my husband must be here too?? I finally told them that I want nothing to do with their company. I’ve had much better luck googling window providers and picking them randomly than the info from this app. They are providing the same people that are pushing too good to be true sales on TV and radio plus they confirmed in their follow up phone call that they don’t stand behind the companies they are referring. They get a referral fee for selling my info and then are done.

I signed up for HomeAdvisor and used the app to look up some providers for lawn maintenance. I specifically said that all I was doing was planning and budgeting, and that I was not looking to be contacted yet. Within 24 hours of doing this, I received 5 phone calls from a provider regarding the service, and then the provider SHOWED UP AT MY HOUSE and knocked on the door. When I didn’t answer (I am 9 months pregnant and very uncomfortable), he knocked again every few minutes until I finally opened the door in my pajamas and said it wasn’t a good time. I get that this man is trying to run a small business and support his family, but by signing up for this app and simply looking up providers, I did not expect to be harassed. I obviously should have read the terms and conditions more closely. Secondly, there is no straightforward way to close your account. I had to LiveChat with a customer service rep to request my account be closed... he said that the relevant team would be alerted and “initiate” the closing of my account. What the heck? Just close my account. I don’t want to be harassed any longer.
  • So Far Great Experiences - Great Contractor’s

I found HA when we started a couple of projects on my Dads house. Someone outside of HA predicted an outrageous amount and a crazy way to do a job. I said no way and began looking for an electrician who I knew would have a better way. I found HA. Long story short got a call for one and he came out, quoted. Got another call and told the first guy what was going on and that we chose someone and he said great. He asked the price and said that was good and if I needed him to check he would. Both were great. Next project Hot water Heater fiasco. Who knew. So I once again reached out to HA. Got a call, well a few and have someone lined up, once I sift through the craziness. So far I have seen professional, licensed, honest and quality contractors. This will be my home for any and all future projects that they can cover. I downloaded the app to make it that much easier. OMG I have been sleeping on HA.
  • Good and Bad

First the good. I was able to find an outstanding painter using this tool that I will be giving 5 stars to. I cannot say enough about Leonard Painting! Now the bad. There is no way to cancel projects on here so if you are just browsing, looking for an idea on price.... vendors will be given your number and will start to call you. I MIGHT be doing tile work in the future and was looking for the price span that the tool gives you. The next thing I knew, people were calling me and I had to take my phone number out of the tool. So only look up projects you absolutely plan on doing, unless you want to be contacted. Also, I found out that Home Advisor charges those contractors about $50 if their name shows up when searching for a project. So whether you call them or not, they have to pay. I thought that was crappy and a little pricey. Hopefully, these contractors are getting enough leads to cover the cost. I’m not sure that I will use the tool again once my painting is done.
  • Bath Remodel Disappointment

After working with HA for nearly 25 years in an array of successful home remodels and additions, I unfortunately stumbled onto a highly recommended HA contractor for a bath remodel which proved to be our worst nightmare. Beginning from day one where the contractor failed to show up without even a call, our 5-week max project turned into a 13- week remodel debacle covering all of 60-sq ft. Worst yet, the 3 calls I placed to my HA rep in Denver were never returned and the face to face meeting I had with our contractor after dealing with just 10 days of shear turmoil, I resigned myself to sucking it up and simply plowing thru whatever else lay ahead. Only 2 positive outcomes of the project - a second ‘independent sub’ from the contractor was brought in after 8 weeks to try and salvage/save our remodel (which he fulfilled with flying colors) and the project finally was completed. May 29 - Sept 14; an entire summers’ worth of frustration, turmoil and complete miscommunication - sorry HA, but after this mess, I may begin looking elsewhere for future references and help.

The girl on the phone was nice and helpful but that’s where it ended. The reviews I read on the people I was interested in we’re not available and we’re not taking any referrals. So I was transferred to a contractor that was available. The conversation started out very strange with like three hellos I’m saying is there anyone there. Then he spent five minutes and complained about being charged even when he doesn’t speak to anyone and how shocked he was I was a live person on the phone I assured him I was ready to discuss my project. Wow was I surprised at his prices. I have an 11x12 kitchen and my plan requires only 2 upper and 4 lower cabinets. This is not the kind of house that warrants at $35,000+ kitchen and that is not including appliances. One non load bearing 5ft wall removed. When I was shocked and said wow that’s a lot and I had to hear five minutes of how he has to pay everybody and overhead etc. etc. No wonder he was available. Fortunately I was able to find somebody on my own that was reasonable and dependable.
