  • Agile approach needed to improve dish anywhere

    By carl in houston
I have used dish anywhere for several years. And I have been dismayed by the quality for the last 2 releases. A couple of years ago I had no issues with it. I used it on my iPhone and occasionally on my PC. The iPhone side has lost quality and not kept up with the hopper 3 interface. I use my iPhone in landscape mode and the progress bar in that mode is completely useless. It never shows the information correctly. The bar is set as I start it up and never changes to fit landscape. The times are not correct either. The tool also does not let me use folders in a way similar to the hopper 3. Very dissatisfying. On my pc there are simply too many buttons to push to get it started. And sometimes you have to guess how to get there. It also is not smooth. Even when I have been watching for a while it will simply pause for a few 10s of seconds and then restart. Gets pixely as well. Finally when using the guide on my iPhone the buffers are not working well. After using it on several different shows the guide starts disappearing on the grid. Just goes gray I have worked in the software industry and suggest that if you are not already doing so you should employ an agile approach. Works wonders.
  • Needs alot of work!

    By Abmael Silva
I'm am sorry for being blunt, but the app was not well maintained. It might have been a great app, once upon a time. I currently have the iPhone 8+ and it looks very bad on it. It was designed for a smaller screen, and when it's used on a big screens the proportion are off. There are countless bugs. If the control center is open mid on-demand playback, the play back stops, and to resume a lot of steps have to betaken and an add is shown. The UI is outdated, and it's hard to navigate the app. This app seems to be created on a cross platform framework, witch it's good to save money. But the developers must pay special care, and attention to detail when delivering the app to all devices it support, so it doesn't look off. I wish Dish would realize that this app is a gold mine, and that the their competitors have apps that out perform this one. It is really frustrating to use this app.
  • The main reason I keep Dish

    By Wlmrtdrvr
I’m not going to say this app is perfect, but it works and I use it almost daily. I am a truck driver and have to record a lot of the shows that I want to watch. As long as I have a good signal, I can watch my recordings while on break at night or occasionally catch them on live tv. In a weaker signal, it does freeze up occasionally and I get the “reconnecting to receiver” message a lot. The only thing I’ve found that needs some work, would be the fast forward and rewind buttons. They work most of the time, but are slow and cause the app to freeze up at times. Thanks!
  • Can’t use HDMI ** Fixed **

    By Luap483
I travel a lot and this app was 5 stars for me because I could watch my shows wherever I was. I would hook up my HDMI adapter and hook it to the Hotel TV and it was just like watching my shows at home. Unfortunately, for whatever reason they have decided to disable that functionality. Since my eyesight is poor it just isn’t feasible for me to watch shows on the iPhone. So my rating is now 1 star. Outstanding way to improve your app... NOT! Received an email from the developer notifying me that they fixed this issue with the latest update. I’m a happy traveler again! Five stars!
  • Stuck forever on launch screen in latest iOS on both iPhone and iPad

    By maicole
Downloaded latest updates for iOS and the dish app. Now instead of lame and buggy experience that sometimes lets me watch shows in a frustrating way, I get the launch screen with the spinning donut and let it sit there for minutes before giving up. Entirely useless experience identical on iPad and iPhone. Deleting and reinstalling the app changes nothing. I only resorted to using the app in iOS after abysmal issues using dish anywhere via a PC in the chrome and Firefox. Time to ditch Dish all together based on this failure. The sling experience for remote viewing of dish programs once upon a time was that somewhat decent. It’s gone downhill for years and gets worse it seems by the month though at this point I don’t see how to get much worse. Beware!
  • Issues with Sound

    By Milena20
I watch TV primarily via On Demand on my laptop and iPhone. I love that Dish provides that feature as it perfectly matches my lifestyle. The iPhone app Is frustrating though because when I watch tv shows on demand, usually 15 into the show when the first set of ads starts running the app loses its sound feature. So I have to stop the show, get out of the app, restart it, start the show again, the sound comes back but I now am forced to watch the same set of ads as when it crashed and only then the show will start from where I left it off... until the next set of ads is up and I lose sound again. At which point I am so frustrated that I am better off not using the app whatsoever... so one is better off watching On Demand on their laptop than on their phones.
  • We need this to be better

    By tallguy77
Buggy and terrible user interface. Doesn’t connect at random times. Going into Transfers shows you a blank screen rather than straight to your transferred shows that of course are what you want. Setting a show to record often errors, or tells you it’s recording and then doesn’t actually record. When you pause a show and come back to it, it usually loses your place. Too many taps to do anything... why not ask at the end of playing a DVR’d show over streaming, if we want to delete it? Watching on a plane *while in airplane mode*, the app helpfully tells you with an obnoxious yellow bar at the bottom that you are offline. Duh. Dish, please invest in some good coding for this app and start over.
  • 2 years , 2 years better

    By phxpaul
The app prompted me to submit a review. I forgot I did one 2 years ago. I wasn’t very friendly. I have to say that for my needs it works now perfect. My mobile service is much better than it was then and I think that was probably 90% of the problem. I use this app regularly even while in Canada and it works great so long as I have a good connection. There’s a lot of Dish bashing going in these reviews and I think a lot of it boils down to the users mobile connection and home connection, not the app.
  • About as useful as used toilet paper

    By Rad alex
We switched to Dish after being with Directv for 20+ years when AT&T took over raising our rates. One of the things they sold us on was this app. It’s useless, and if it did work, you could only use it on one device (something they failed to tell us oh so conveniently). It is constantly saying “connection lost”. Or it buffers. I usually just go straight to whatever I want to watch and use their app. After developer response, I’d like to add. Yes, we tried all the things you suggested. Early in in our two year contract (sentence), I even spent countless hours on the phone seeking a resolution to the problems. Instead of responding with a CYA response, wouldn’t it just be better to FIX, and stop telling people lies when you sign them up?
  • Buggy in many ways

    By Gramsterdam
This app has potential to be something valuable, but the amount of issues is incredibly frustrating. If I try to fast forward through commercials on something I’ve DVR’d, the audio will come back but the screen remains blank. So you have to back out of the show, reopen it to continue, but then it also doesn’t pick up right where you left off. Fast forwarding or rewinding just causes the problem all over again. There are issues with some programs just not opening and constantly “loading.” Often the app is buggy in being able to screen mirror from an iPhone or iPad, to an AppleTV, which is hit or miss. Again, the concept could be great, but the issues that exist with actual functionality just make for too many annoyances and headaches to warrant a decent star-rating. And good luck trying to get ahold of someone after hours. They advertise 24/7 customer service, but more than a few times I’ve just gotten a recorded message stating “we’re currently closed.” All together it just makes for a bad experience and leaves a whole lot to be desired from this company. It’s a shame.
