App Reviews

  • Needs work. Doesn’t continue to play.

TOO MANY COMMERCIALS I LITERALLY LISTEN FOR 8 minutes and still haven’t heard the actual RADIO STATION. Back to iHeartRadio. Sometimes I get a call and it obviously takes precedence over the app and when I end the call I go back to the app and the radio does not continue to play either on its own because the call ended or if I’ve pressed play. No matter how long the call was. Same thing happens if a video pops up on Facebook I want to watch, I have to kill the app and reopen it for each instance. Slightly frustrating especially listening to my favorite morning show. No offense but iHeartRadio comes right back on, but I would like to listen local so I use it in the morning even though Kidd Kraddick Morning Show is nationally syndicated and I could listen to iHeartRadio on another station. So come on y’all! #firstworldproblems
  • Terrible App, Stay Away If Possible

In a world where most changes are touted as an improvement, here’s an example of it not being true. This app falls terribly short from the previous TuneIn app. The designers/decision makers seem to not understand why consumers use the previous product, and created an alternative that was good for the company but not the consumers who use it. Functionality is terrible in the following ways: 1) constant connectivity issues —-> it takes way to long to start playing and with no buffering it cuts in an out. 2) user interface is not helpful—> I push play and have to guess (or just wait) to hear sound.. it can take up to 30 seconds using WiFi. 3) if you miss a comment you can not go back 10 or 15 seconds to hear what was missed. 4) where’s the pause button? I received a phone call while listening to the Gary Parish show and missed 2 segments since I couldn’t pause the show. 5) and speaking of no pause option, what ever happened to buffering? I could go on, but I hope my point was made, and you stay away from this app. I’m sure this app saves the communication company money, but it’s at the expense of quality and functionality to their customers.
  • Unuseable app

If only Entercom spent as much time fixing this app as they did creating fake 5-star reviews for it. This is by far one of the worst apps I am forced to use if I want to listen to my hometown sports radio. On top of it being unreliable, buggy and unstable, it loops this incessant Great Moments in Sports nonsense. It went on for over 20 minutes the last time I was listening before I had to just stop. This app is absolutely and unequivocally awful. What a terrible product to force your radio stations to use. It only gets a star because zero or negative stars is not possible. *update: this continues to be a nearly unusable app. It doesn’t work well with CarPlay and crashes often. It repeats the same commercials/PSAs over and over. I don’t know how each update could make an app worse, but you’ve accomplished it.

My local radio station stopped using their own app and migrated the listeners over to this app and while the one feature I do enjoy is being able to download full episodes of a show, it’s incredibly unstable and buggy. To fast forward or rewind via scrubbing the time slider either jumps 20 minutes ahead or does nothing, or crashes the app. This is extremely frustrating as scrubbing forward of backward in time is a crucial feature to not have working. The app itself is very buggy if you try to download a show, it crashes frequently. Needs a lot of work, the UI is also pretty bad as well. Hope it improves because I have no other choice to listen to the shows I enjoy.
  • I miss TuneIn

I used to listen to my local sports radio station on TuneIn. That was a happier time. Since Entercom has pulled all their stations from TuneIn I am subjected to this terrible app. I can’t play it directly through Alexa, and the skill they’ve built for Alexa is absolutely horrible. I also can’t pause or rewind on this app like I could on TuneIn. In fact, the pain that goes along with using the new app has actually resulted in me listening considerably less. It is so much more work to get it to play what I want that many times I don’t even bother. Literally everything about TuneIn was better. Unfortunately, if you’re downloading this it’s probably because the station you want is only available on this one and you have no choice.
  • Needs some polish

Like that I can listen to my favorite station in HD when out of town, and it was easy enough to navigate the app to find my station. However sound quality seems to come and go more than similar apps, and I do most of my work and streaming from an iPad Pro in landscape mode for typing, and either there is an option I haven’t been able to find, or the app hasn’t even been adapted for landscape. I’ll continue using the app, but it definitely doesn’t have the polish of some competitors.

When CBS radio stopped free streaming to switch to subscription only programming I started using this app. Have used it for a couple of weeks now and have nothing to complain about. I primarily listen to WIP out of Philly in the AM and have had no issues. It will periodically go silent for short periods, seconds, but not sure if it is them of the WiFi signal. So far it has been a good alternative to CBS who appear to be struggling financially and are gravitating to subscription for all their content, TV and radio.

Most of the problems have already been mentioned (bugs, lags, cut off segments, corrupt files, etc). The worst part seems to be that Entercom strong-armed their stations into ditching their old apps (my best guess given the coinciding demise of individual station apps). This has left users to learn a very user-unfriendly app that requires so many layers of taps and touches to get to content that listening during a morning commute could become dangerous. Additionally, I listen to stations based out of Buffalo (20 minutes from the Canadian border) and, evidently, customers in Canada can’t even get the app, which means the station is losing listeners. Big ol’ fail. They need to hire a bigger team and run some focus groups, stat.
  • Love this app! Best free radio app!

I have been using this app forever and I love it! It gives you access to all of the station I love to listen to and I don’t have to pay anything. It has very few ads and the ones that are never get in the way. The only commercials you get are the ones playing from the station which you would get no matter how you listened to the radio. Overall super good and I love it!

The app will not let you scrub through a downloaded podcast. If you try to drag the playhead to a certain spot it randomly jumps to a new position on the timeline. The skip forward/reverse 15 sec buttons do not function. Pausing a saved podcast and then pressing play again on the lock screen starts the live stream, not the podcast. Pausing the podcast while in the App and then pressing Play again starts the podcast over from the beginning, and not where you left off. And lastly, play/pause in Control Center does not function at all.
