You all came so close to making a really great improvement. Highlighting RECENTLY contacted profiles is definitely helpful – It’s better than nothing - but it only works on the very first day that you use it. Every day after that, you have to click on every profile to see if you’ve contacted them before, which defeats the purpose of the feature in the first place. I can’t speak for everybody, but if I contact someone and they don’t respond, I don’t need to see their profile again for AT LEAST 30 days. In my experience if someone doesn’t answer you the first time, they never well. It’s just not meant to be. Besides, what lunatic would contact the same person, day after day, indefinitely, without a response? That’s called stalking. Addendum: What would be AMAZINGLY helpful, especially for profiles without a thumbnail picture which helps you distinguish one profile from another, is if there was a little asterisk or check mark, etc., in the upper right-hand corner of the profile thumbnail picture on the search screen indicating that you’ve already messaged that member, instead of double-tapping EVERY SINGLE profile EVERY time you open the app to see who you have messaged and who you haven’t. This is extremely - no, EXTREMELY - tedious and time-consuming. And/or perhaps even better, a way to remove profiles from searches without blocking them. Thank you.

Back when this app first came out it was the best app out on the market there was no competition and never any issues. Then as time went on few glitches here and there minus setbacks nothing major. Then came time you had to pay for a subscription. That’s when the app got bad customer service started to decline and all they cared about was getting you subscription money. They upgraded and updated started adding on useless stuff like emoji cons that you already have on your phone and the price for a subscription went up again. Add things to the app that are useful not useless the location provided I thought I was talking to somebody that was only 4000 feet away from me and he was over in grease so how is that correct and working it doesn’t it doesn’t work correctly when you go to send your location within the past two months the app of crushed on my phone 47 times. Loss of all chats frequently loss of pictures and profiles frequently let’s get rid of useless tapped and emoji cons fix the current location issues and put the money from monthly subscriptions into making the app run better and and run like it used to. You shouldn’t have to delete the app and then reinstall in order to be able log back in and unfreeze the issues. Nor should you have to wait for days before you get response to your support email that. Usually doesn’t help you fix the issue that you’re having.
  • Ads, spam, and free push messaging ONLY outside of US

Grindr has taken the American market that helped them launch their product and abused the consumer base by forcing customers to pay to receive push notifications while offering it for free when you cross the border into Canada (for example). Meanwhile, we are also inundated by pop up ads and messaged ads and that’s just from their advertisers (most of which are harmful and stereotyping fitting into toxic ideas of body consciousness in the gay community) and then there are all the bots that spam message you porn links. You’re much better off using another social app to meet people and Scruff is noticeably better at this point if you want something similar. * UPDATE: since posting this, Grindr customer support has messaged me two times asking me to reach out to them if I need any assistance or to help. There’s literally nothing you can help with. Your corporate leadership has run amok and off the rails. I receive more advertisements for penis enlargement or underwear sales then I do actual messages and on top of that whenever you block someone you have to watch a commercial, and if you hop over the Canadian border for example, you receive push notification for free rather than for a monthly service fee. What a disgusting sell-out of a corporation. DOWNLOAD Tinder or Scruff depending on what you are looking for.

I got a developer response to this that says I need to restore the purchase manually, ummm I have all the features of xtra, did the robot that read my review not understand it? I have xtra it’s working for the most part, but I’m still getting advertising telling me to upgrade to XTRA 2.0, and other advertising. The restore is the first thing I tried. I’m still getting advertising. Pop up ads not the advertising on the bottom. Reread this again and try to understand it before sending out some bs. Seriously. I got xtra cause of a promotion that was going on. Any who I’ve had it before and there was no pop up ads after purchase. But now there are. I’m paying to have advertising. Everything I’ve seen before including xtra 2.0 now I’m stumped cause the features I’m getting with xtra are the same as xtra 2.0. Is the app trying to sell me another membership to xtra? As well I sent in a support message and got the response of “report spam profiles in the app form”. Ummm how do I report advertising done by the app that’s a pop up and not a profile? Confused as heck on that! Oh wait the support robot misunderstood the response. And I responded to the message and it’s been a lot longer than I’d expect to get a follow up response. I need to submit a new one to get a quicker and hopefully accurate response.

I’ve never taken the time to review an app, but having been using this one since its inception it seems apt to give my 2 cents: the inconsistencies, lax monitoring and outright biased moderation of profile images, profile content and underage members is outrageous. I’ve personally had it at this point, sick of half my messages not getting through and half messages sent to me showing up on notifications but when I open up the app... nada. On this particular day, though, I’m really, really, really incensed by the discriminatory, inconsistent and offensively undeniable practices relating to profile pictures. I’ve always experienced very, very strict vetting to the extent of images not violating any guidelines rejected; furthermore in the past few days it’s come to my attention that there seems to be an abundance of guys out there that get a free pass and are exempt of certain regulations... without going into detail, it’s very frustrating to submit the same image over and over cropping just a bit more even though there’s nothing to crop as per the guidelines... long story short picture rejected 6 times so far, and they do reserve the right to crop at their discretion yet no... This is bullsh*t. Anyway, I’ll be back to continue this tirade.
  • Worst Social Communication App

I acquired Grindr at the very beginning of its release on the market during my teenage years. Which was approximately 10 years ago more or less. At that time, the experience was fun the moments were unforgettable and nevertheless the users were genuine and sincere. Even the mediocre guys were somewhat ok. Overtime as the years went by the profiles and the users behind them became un-realistic, un-trustworthy, deceitful, rude, dangerously un-healthy and petty. It’s now the epitome of a mis-interpretation of gays and how we are perceived to the public. We come in all shapes and sizes etc. Nonetheless, an invasion of personal privacy for those of us who value our discretion. In a deeper context, Messages are lost. The App crashes consistently and the expensive forceful subscription for the amenities it offers aren't worth the time, money or patience. You all have taken the fun out of “fun” alongside meeting guys in a positive safe atmosphere. In conclusion, when a location is publicly visible on your profile other members use it as a tracking device to find out where you are against your will unless you manually turn it off inside settings. Quite stalkerish I might add. Headless torsos and whorish married/partnered straight and gay men looking for a quickie are a thing of my past.
  • Intrusive, greedy & worst customer service

This apps privacy policy alone should make you run to the neighbour hood bar to meet others. If you decide to use the app, you’ll quickly discover how greedy and aggressive the app has become when using the free version. Almost every other tap pops a push splash page ad, a video ad or some stupid blog. screening of profiles makes no sense. G rated pics get rejected but other almost x rated pics get approved. Reporting a profile or a photo is a joke. No action for days if even that when reporting underage profiles, offensive profile pictures and or spam. Phishing bots are another problem at times. Inflation of number of users online is a major problem. Users show online when they have logged off longtime ago. The only way to logout of the app is to delete the app. When users quit the app, profile status shows online for at least 11 minutes after the user have switched apps which is a problem. False online status results in friends blacking your profile thinking you are ignoring them where you actually have logged off long time ago. Bottomline bad app, greedy company and invasive privacy policies.
  • They finally broke it

I've been through three updates in four days. The first broke it, second claimed to fix it but didn't, then the third that should have fixed that but still didn't. I haven't been able to log on in days because the app crashes on loading. If I uninstall/reinstall then I'll lose all my chat logs and it still might not fix the problem. I don't understand how you can break your own app so thoroughly that it won't even load for a considerable swathe of your users. If anyone else in my tiny town used any other app then I wouldn't even bother with Grindr anymore. Edit - They responded on May 2 saying they’re working on it, the same canned response I got for all the previous problems, and yet here we are over a month later and the app is still broken beyond use. Every time I close the app or it soft-resets all my chats disappear from my list. I can still access them, if I see who sent it online and can tap on their profile. Otherwise if someone messages me while I’m offline then I just don’t get their message. Really useful Grindr. You guys screwed up bad and it’s been *months* since the app has worked properly.
  • Ads and bots have gotten out of hand

First off, unlike some others on here, I am alright with ads on a free app as they have to make money somehow. What I’m tired of is that there’s an ad every time you click on something and they’re all timed. So what used to be a quick jump on to check messages and arrange a quicky has turned into sitting through a 30-second ad and getting annoyed and deciding it’s not worth it anymore. They also move the X to close the app to different corners and put it in places where it’s darn near impossible to not open the ad. Also, I can’t leave this one alone; someone mentioned something about the app showing your online when you’re not, Which does happen. However, if people are really stressing that much and can’t handle not receiving an immediate response, they should go someplace and meet people in person. Technology, such as this, was originally intended to allow people to communicate more efficiently with the premise that you can do so when it’s convenient. If some dude I’ve never met in person believes he should be the most important thing in my life, then I’m moving on. Have some dignity.

Horrible website because of all the pop ups. Had to delete the app tonight in fact because of a pop up ad that the Grindr website brought up that didn’t have the option to exit out of it. Every time I open up Grindr, I got nothing but the pop up. Finally, just deleted it. It’s the second time I’ve had to delete the website. Awhile back, I had a problem where every time I tried to open a message box to chat with someone, anyone on the website, the app crashed and sent me out of the app. I tried to start it over and that problem repeated itself every time I tried to message someone. The Grindr Help only suggested updating to the latest version I had, clearing cache which I did or deleting the app altogether and starting all over again. Pretty crappy! Contacted the website and they said it was an app problem that lots were experiencing, nothing to do with my phone. While it only happened the one night which I can forgive, they still haven’t bothered to address the issue with the constant obnoxious ads and now ads you can’t exit out of without deleting the app altogether.
