App Reviews

  • Awful since update..

It is way too white and thin lines to separate each thing. There is no beginning or end. Just runs together. I am a die hard since beginning of time I have had this app. Deleting it today which breaks my heart bc I have depended on it since iPhone came out. I am 37y/o director of Business Development for a Hospital. Therefore I work on our website, billboards, social media, marketing. The update is a fail like snapchats. Bright white hurts my eyes even with my phone dimmed completely. I go to eye Dr yearly and I don’t wear glasses or contacts aka no eye issues. Everyone I know says the same. It’s so disappointing. Everyday runs together with nothing visible that separates each day. It isn’t appealing to the eyes at all. I miss the old app with lots of blues (gentle on the eyes) and the layout. I never leave reviews but this bothers me so much to have to look for another app because loyalty is so big for me. I use the same Drs, hair person, stay at jobs for a long time. I am okay with change with my Job I change on a dime and am used to it but only for good reason. This update was the worst even before Snapchats awful update which they have since fixed. I am deleting my app today and in search of another good one. Some updates are appealing and done right this was not. I have emailed them my thoughts when it first came out. I have given myself time to adjust. I haven’t adjusted to it at all.. Hope this helps. Thank you.

I have never been so disappointed in people not listening in my life. There was something good about the ole weather channel info and the way it was presented for older adults like me. Every time I get used to something all you brainos out there change things and never think about having something simple for older adults. There was something simple, I knew what was going on and it was accurate. Yet you go out and change it to garbage. I changed from whatever we used to have to the the weather channel because of the accuracy and simplicity and now I have garbage. I think I will say goodbye to you and look for something else. I remember when my grandparents used to fuss about all the changes that people made and never considered the older adults. Now I am in their shoes and understand what they meant. Maybe think about Henry David Thoreau’s words “SIMPLIFY SIMPLIFY SIMPLIFY “. Those words are as true today as when he wrote them. Maybe some of you should think about them before you destroy something that was working. I also do not like all the personal info that everyone is looking for. Most of it you do not need and is really none of your business.
  • Oh come on, stop noodling and fix your ugly app.

Another update: I don’t get it. You keep saying you’re listening and making changes and I’m sorry, they aren’t enough by a mile. WAKE UP. START OVER OR REVERT. I’m glad your sporadic developer responses have assured me that “testing” has proven that your angry users are all wrong somehow. Did your testing also predict your plummeting ratings? Glad that testing is working out so splendidly. Quite simply, your app is not legible, still ridiculously light text in light backgrounds. See the lovely dark blue you open with? Remember how readable white text was on that? Don’t let your arrogant design team keep digging in their heels. Get unscrewed. Update: Still terrible. Your minor improvements do not address the fundamental failure of this redesign. Hang your heads, apologize and find a new design team or revert. Otherwise continue to behold your plummeting stars. Total downfall. Previous: Terrible redesign has made it nearly impossible to read anything. Tiny tiny white text on subtle gradients? No option to resize the text? What are you thinking? Please address these numerous complaints...this isn’t about “getting used” to changes. People aren’t complaining out of fear of change, they are complaining because this is basically bad bad UI design. As in so truly terrible that it should have been nipped in the bud in beta. Stop listening to the millennials on your design team for the love of god.
  • Less than 1 star is what this app deserves

I had used the app since its inception but I’m deleting it from my phone. Lately with every release there has been less weather information and more videos with horrible tv personalities trying to be amusing or pseudo-science sound bites that have little or nothing to do with the weather. I have subscribed to the ad free version each year since it became available and that helped, but I’m so throughly disgusted with the redesign that I’m done with everything to do with the Weather Channel. The app now carries little useful information, (for years you haven’t been able to view anything resembling a map with weather fronts which I find useful as I suffer from sinus headaches) but in prior releases one could easily find the humidity (vital in parts of the country), temperature, and hourly forecast. Now with work you can find the temperature and hourly forecast. I use a weather app to find out the weather for the day. To know if I need a rain coat or if I’m going to have to wear light or heavy cloths. Or take a jacket. And if I’m packing to travel (which I do often) is like to easily be able to see other cities. Now I have to work for it. And only get vague hints as to the weather. So, bye bye Weather Channel. I’ll rely on AccuWeather (my husband swears by it) or even WeatherBug for my daily and planning needs and I’ll use Radar Scope for tornadoes or dangerous weather.

Anyone can find little faults with anything, but I believe small things aren’t a big issue. Maybe it’s just the way I am, but if something works well overall, I won’t hold it against a great review. I generally take negative reviews with a grain of salt anyway unless it’s major! When I decide to leave a review for something I will judge fairly. Sure if it’s something that needs to be very accurate then I will judge more accordingly... Yes things have changed with the look of the UI this that... It’s different, but I have no problem with the change. I have noticed the Radar map, and other weather info is on point with other weather apps or forecasts. Weather can always change. Sometimes things will be a little off especially with radar map. If the Radar shows rain in my location at a given time it’s generally correct give or take 15 minutes, but it’s not a big deal in the Grand Scheme of things. I don’t necessarily expect exact timing, because as I said weather can have acute changes. Nothings perfect, but overall I have nothing majorly negative to say. I use the app with iPhone 6, and my main iPhone 7.
  • Ads

I don’t much care for the ads being before the videos every single time. In fact this world has become advertising conscious. Shows on TV that used to be 40 minutes long are now 30 minutes long with two or three inserts of ads that are 10 to 15 minutes long each time. Therefore, now we are subjected to the torture of ads, & if that isn’t enough, we have the shortened show, which is only six weeks long, if we are lucky, when they used to be 3 months long before they changed for the next season. That wasn’t enough, now you have ads on your phone, at the bottom of everything & any kind of video you want to watch, it’s at the beginning of it. It has become insane. They’re on billboards, magazines, newspapers, everywhere you look & that add to that you have to buy the product but you’re already paying a high price for the TV, the Internet & the phone yet still subjected to all these ads with the saying of “we need them to pay for the service.” I’m paying for the service so why are they paying for it. It’s just gotten ridiculous all over the place. 99% of the stuff that’s advertised I don’t want anyway.
  • Downgrade of an update

Update: I emailed a support request to TWC about the upgrade not recognizing my ad-free purchase. It’s been more than 72 hours and no reply. Infuriating! I wish I knew the best alternative weather app to recommend. It used to be Weather Underground, but TWC has recently “upgraded” that app as well. Original: The latest version is in essence a major downgrade. For one thing, it caused the app to forget that I’ve already paid to remove ads. When I try to restore purchases, it pops up that there is nothing to restore. When I try to buy it again just to see if it will allow me to, iTunes warns that I have already purchased it and if I do so again, it will only extend the current subscription. The ads are so intrusive and resource heavy now that they cause the app to frequently stall or freeze, and sometimes even crash. Maybe this is also partly due to the other resource heavy content they put on the app like the ridiculous amount of video content. The Weather Channel organization has irritated me for many years with its blatant weather news sensationalism, but I continued to use the app because it used to be fairly decent and reliable. Not so much with the new app overhaul that came out a couple of weeks ago. And now that they have taken over and overhauled the Weather Underground apps as well, these too are much less than what they once were.
  • Words, Not Tiny Pictures

I want the weather forecast. I want to know what it’s going to do today. I don’t need a bar chart or a graph to interpret the rising and falling temps. When I want to see hourly, I should be able to see more than 6 hours without having to scroll, and scroll, and scroll. (Oops, I forgot, if I choose Hourly from the bottom of the screen the information is shown in a useful manner.) If I can choose hourly or daily from the main screen, why do I need a bar at the bottom, taking up more space, to access these features. (Oops, again, apparently I need multiple ways to see the information, I just need to remember which way to get to it that provides USEFUL data.) If I can see all my options from the main screen, why do I need a big white button at the top of the screen, taking up space and blocking the entire current forecast; that provides me with yet ANOTHER take on the weather. On the main screen, over 2/3rds of the space is dedicated to ads, repeat menus, and useless charts...oh, and “Trending Conditions”...isn’t all weather a trending condition? Maybe because I’m in my 50’s, I don’t get the need for pictures. I want words that are in a font big enough to see without a magnifying glass. I don’t need three ways to access the same information. I need a single source for info that is of a decent and usable size.
  • Less useful since update 2018

    2
    By Frustrated former app user
I used this app multiple times per day in the past but since the 2018 update, I have hardly used it at all. The data is accurate. It is hard to find the info you need. They now have boxes on the screen with different info. The screen is so chopped up you can’t see enough of any one thing to figure out what it is. The previous version was better when current details were on the first screen and you could scroll down to whatever section you need. There was enough info on the screen to understand and you had the option to tap an arrow to get more detailed info if you wish. Now I see 2 or 3 words, then a box with an ad, then 4 or 5 words and then another ad. Nothing is obvious that you can tap to get more details. I hate tapping all over the screen to figure out what gives more details since the first screen is useless and there is nothing to indicate how to get details. Please revise back similar to the previous functionality which was efficient and obvious how to operate the app! I haven’t ever written a review before when an app changed, but this one is so bad it deserves a comment. The only reason that it gets 2 stars is because the data is accurate if you are ever able to get to it.
  • New Update RUINED this app!

UPDATED REVIEW: Another update to this app...and now it’s even worse!! The last update made a once great app bad; this update just completely decimated it. I’ll be deleting it because it’s now unusable. The layout is SO distracting that I can’t even focus on what I’m looking for - you know, the actual weather. Why so many lines everywhere?? It’s awful. Don’t know what they’re thinking with these updates, but whoever thinks these are improvements is an idiot and should be fired. Total trash app. So disappointing, as this has been my go to weather app for many years. ———————————————————— ORIGINAL REVIEW: I've never written a review before, but this latest app update compelled me to do so. The update has taken what was once my favorite weather app and turned it into a cluttered, ad-riddled, blurry mess. It now has 3 LARGE icons at the bottom of the screen for pollen, video & radar (with a moving ad below those 3 things) that offer no option to "hide." This effectively takes up a 1/4 of your viewing screen. Also, I've always liked their feature of being able to choose my background photo for the app screen. You can still do so, but your photo is now extremely blurry. I used to love this app, but the update has ruined it, so I will be deleting and searching for another unless they fix it ASAP!
