App Reviews

  • Focus on the weather

Stop focusing on all the videos, and adds, and the weather 15 days away, most of the time the information is inaccurate that day. My phone comes with a free app, that is accurate and no ads, but I watch the weather channel at home and thought I'd give their app a try, I don't care for the ads everywhere, I don't like the videos that are click bait and normally have nothing to do with the weather, I don't like anything that distracts me from the reason I opened the app, which is getting my local weather, now I've done a little research, and the people that have built the weather channel app are following a model, they built an app, give it away for free and get paid to place ads in their app by companies looking to get customers, or you can pay to have the ads removed and they make a one time fee off of you, now either one is fine, but the issue I have with the free or paid version is the lack of accurate data, if they say there is a 20% chance of rain, and I go outside and it's raining, I'd say it's wrong. Fix you accuracy before you try and extract money from people by bullying them with ads and videos, at any rate I have tried other apps and found plenty out there that are accurate, and will no longer be using this app. Update, so now in order to watch these click bait videos, that are not even provided by the weather channel, I have to watch the same 15 second ad every single time on every video, are you kidding.
  • Very Disappointed 😔

Only 10% of the people say ‘ Oh my god get this app it is great.” While the other 90% says that it is trash. I am one of those 90%. I can not believe that The Weather Channel can’t even forecast a 20 minute snow. Very dissapointed. Accuracy is never accurate and radar would take a long time to load. I think all of this is a big fat lie that it says that this is the most acurate app. Honestly the videos it gives are more social then more weather related. If you live near Washington D.C then you should get a accurate report of your weather. For example it gave 90% chance of heavy thunderstorms with heavy downpours and the next thing you know after 5 minutes slightly chance of rain shower. WOW. How can the storm move away that is about 1 mile away to reaching us and suddenly just miss us. I do not understand how people give 5 stars to this app and even 3 stars. Seorisly you should hire people that acctually work and keep check of the radar every 2 minutes ( because they said that the weather channel app radar refreshes every 2 minutes. I don’t think that this app will ever become great in the near future. Until you get better people in Atlanta, Georgia headquaters and you write a developers feedback to this review I am not having this app downloaded in my phone that takes a lot of battery and storage. Hopefully my review will actually make you responsible for this app and to take more care of it. Very disappointed.

I have never been so disappointed in people not listening in my life. There was something good about the ole weather channel info and the way it was presented for older adults like me. Every time I get used to something all you brainos out there change things and never think about having something simple for older adults. There was something simple, I knew what was going on and it was accurate. Yet you go out and change it to garbage. I changed from whatever we used to have to the the weather channel because of the accuracy and simplicity and now I have garbage. I think I will say goodbye to you and look for something else. I remember when my grandparents used to fuss about all the changes that people made and never considered the older adults. Now I am in their shoes and understand what they meant. Maybe think about Henry David Thoreau’s words “SIMPLIFY SIMPLIFY SIMPLIFY “. Those words are as true today as when he wrote them. Maybe some of you should think about them before you destroy something that was working. I also do not like all the personal info that everyone is looking for. Most of it you do not need and is really none of your business.
  • Great weather app Tells me what I need to Know

Anyone can find little faults with anything, but I believe small things aren’t a big issue. Maybe it’s just the way I am, but if something works well overall, I won’t hold it against a great review. I generally take negative reviews with a grain of salt anyway unless it’s major! When I decide to leave a review for something I will judge fairly. Sure if it’s something that needs to be very accurate then I will judge more accordingly... Yes things have changed with the look of the UI this that... It’s different, but I have no problem with the change. I have noticed the Radar map, and other weather info is on point with other weather apps or forecasts. Weather can always change. Sometimes things will be a little off especially with radar map. If the Radar shows rain in my location at a given time it’s generally correct give or take 15 minutes, but it’s not a big deal in the Grand Scheme of things. I don’t necessarily expect exact timing, because as I said weather can have acute changes. Nothings perfect, but overall I have nothing majorly negative to say. I use the app with iPhone 6, and my main iPhone 7.
  • Downgrade of an update

Update: I emailed a support request to TWC about the upgrade not recognizing my ad-free purchase. It’s been more than 72 hours and no reply. Infuriating! I wish I knew the best alternative weather app to recommend. It used to be Weather Underground, but TWC has recently “upgraded” that app as well. Original: The latest version is in essence a major downgrade. For one thing, it caused the app to forget that I’ve already paid to remove ads. When I try to restore purchases, it pops up that there is nothing to restore. When I try to buy it again just to see if it will allow me to, iTunes warns that I have already purchased it and if I do so again, it will only extend the current subscription. The ads are so intrusive and resource heavy now that they cause the app to frequently stall or freeze, and sometimes even crash. Maybe this is also partly due to the other resource heavy content they put on the app like the ridiculous amount of video content. The Weather Channel organization has irritated me for many years with its blatant weather news sensationalism, but I continued to use the app because it used to be fairly decent and reliable. Not so much with the new app overhaul that came out a couple of weeks ago. And now that they have taken over and overhauled the Weather Underground apps as well, these too are much less than what they once were.
  • Weather variety multiple locations

I have had this app for awhile and use it to not only get local weather but weather for various locations for my son's work travel as surprisingly conditions vary greatly within a 50 mile area which one needs to know if commuting. I get road conditions and various alerts ( rain, snow, lighting, etc) per area. All helpful. Last year because of the reports I got, I saved my son an unnecessary trip because of the weather report. I enjoy the various videos also. I am editing review because of the problems I have been having with the app which appears to be all over where this app is used. I contacted support and only got a service standard reply which is basically sent by a computer. I am highly disappointed that I can’t get the app to work anymore because it was very helpful when it worked. I am not sure if the malfunction is due to the updates on IOS which also requires apps to also update. Whatever the reason, there should be a way to correct problem with app especially when it effects all means of use on phones, tablets and computers.
  • Pretty awful.

I gave two stars for future radar feature. That’s kind of generous in my opinion. I’m forced to use this app for the future radar feature because I haven’t found a decent app that has a future radar to use instead. The app lags horribly, especially within the future radar screen, if I zoom in and then out or vice versa on the map the overlays disappear. Oh, also, there’s more non-weather related and non-essential content than I know what to do with in this app and it slows it all down remarkably. Let’s not mention how politically biased some of the videos are on this app. I come to the weather channel for the weather not someone’s political opinions. And the weather forecasts...🤦🏻‍♀️ well, they never match what’s on the actual weather channel on TV and never match the National Weather Service’s alerts. My family and I are constantly sharing different forecasts and all from the same weather service! I mean... we all know weather isn’t 100% predictable but.. at least make sure the same forecasts are out for all of your channels and apps? Just a suggestion.
  • It was great, then terrible, then good, then terrible...

The original WC app back in the day was pretty solid. I paid the $4 for the ad free version. That version of the app was, hands down, the best weather app that has ever existed in the App Store. Then WC decided to go to a subscription model (because, money). Heck no. The new app has improved since the overhaul as far as look goes, but here’s the kicker; there’s no consistency with what displays. It’s scroll, scroll, scroll to find what I want. I want 4 things. Daily weather, 10-day forecast, maps, and occasionally hour by hour weather. THAT. IS. IT. And I would pay $ for an app that did just that. (I have, and they’re all nowhere near as good as the aforementioned WC paid app.) Please, WC, give me the option to set up the order of the major sections of the app. Let me buy your ad-free app without forcing me to pay for a subscription. With the look of your current app, do that, and you will have made the best weather app that exists. Come on, developers; convince your corporate bosses that this is what people want and that it will benefit the WC brand in the long run, even if they don’t make a few extra bucks a year from a ridiculous subscription service.
  • Stupid and also very inaccurate.

    By Rev Jude
First reason I call it stupid is because they name the snowstorms. I don’t know who came up with that stupid idea but the weather channel but it’s the most stupidest idea I’ve ever heard of naming a snowstorm give me a break. Also the next you know they’re going to name tsunami‘s earthquakes and every time we get a thunderstorm they’re going to name it. Plus their forecasts are always in accurate for where I live. I depend on the weather I can’t expect them to tell me what it’s going to be like in my area. I find that the cable weather is way off also and I don’t trust him. I also use storm in weather underground including the weather channel itself and they are the most stupidest apps to have. They are also very inaccurate and I don’t trust him. I have decided to delete their apps on my phone. I like to rock storms and when I found out from this app including the others if they do have if you can’t track a storm. This app is garbage for anyone who loves the weather. Anything the weather Channel has offer is all garbage. They don’t track storms do you know Kim good forecast in for anyone that Sirius about protecting the weather don’t use this crap.
  • Soooo many inconsistencies....

    3
    By Mamacitaslg
For example: Currently, there’s a warning rolling across the top of opening page. It states that there’s a winter storm warning from midnight through tomorrow at 1pm for 3-5” of snow with up to 6” in some areas. When scrolling down and looking at the detailed daily report for tonight and then tomorrow, it states a less than 1” tonight, and tomorrow 1-3” snow possible. Hence, huge discrepancies and inconsistencies, often. Very annoying. I don’t care how pretty the app is, just make it as reliable as possible. This is carelessness. Also, on a side note.... The videos (of which I have chosen not to even read the titles of anymore and get sucked in to watching) are so hyper-sensationalized and almost always over-dramatic, are a waste of time watching. Unfortunately, this is the app I’ve been most familiar with, so have stuck with for years. I guess it’s better than not knowing what to possibly, maybe, sort of expect without it. Finally, why, when there are almost all 1-3-star ratings, is the app showing its a 4.6-star app??????
