LIFE WITHOUT GOOGLE, I DON’T THINK SO!
Over the years, we’ve all heard someone say, “how did we survive before cellphones were invented”? Standard, cocky, replies (mainly from the older generation) included, “ we had phone booths, pay phones, cordless and wall phones, or for anyone over the age of 50, street lights, no calls necessary, when they came on, you went home! As you may have guessed, I AM over the age of fifty, and I now find myself asking, “how did I ever survive childhood, school, marriage, parenting, grandparenting, and life in general without GOOGLE?” Well, like the older generation I mentioned earlier, I have several obvious, cocky, replies, note to self. Dictionaries, encyclopedias, school, and self described, knowledgeable people. With that being said, I, am at the starting line, wearing my knee socks and Keds, trying to shake the lyrics, I’ll Be There, by The Jackson Five from my brain, able but not willing, to join team AARP, a.k.a, the older generation. Which, finally brings me to the point! Screw the dictionaries and encyclopedias, I’m getting too old to read that fine print, GOOGLE enlarges! I won’t go back to school, I hate all the clicks, just one tap on GOOGLE and I’m in! Last but not least, I just don’t have the time like I used to,(I’m old as dirt) to listen to all that useless “knowledge”, thanks to GOOGLE, mute is only a push away! I hope this review was helpful!
P.S. GOOGLE, is there a senior citizen discount for the Lollapalooza festival?
I have been using google since before its release, when I was going to school in Las Vegas (elementary) we had a field trip in which the university essentially used us as Guinnea pigs for the brand new search engine. I was hooked. Fast forward to 2017 and I feel like google IS the establishment now, not a cool meme for millennials to access information or “google”. I swear my search results are TOO politically correct, when I type in a very specific view point to look for articles that I WANT to read google will instead offer me articles from liberal sources like msn and nyt which is very suspect. So I started blocking those sites on my app, a cool feature but it just refers me to more garbage. If for example I want to read reports that are contradictory to mainstream opinion I will instead get reports that ARE mainstream opinion and that infuriated me. I want to be challenged not spoon fed information. I want to search the darkest corners of the web for my research, and I can’t do that with google. Google is only handy for my college projects at this point which is ironic because they tell us specifically not to use google. Maybe I should listen and try an underground search engine. It’s great for finding the nearest Pizza Hut though then again, I also have an app to save contacts, so google only really has one temporary usage for me, to search for numbers. Not good
Friend or foe
I think it takes a force like Google to transform our quality (earthlings) of life
for the benefit of its constituency (you know who you are, constituency.. in any way at a level of such magnitude. Having said that, it has taken the loyalty of the masses to propelGOOGLE’S meteoric rise thus far. Loyalty goes both ways. And big data is an entity unto itself answerable to itself, and cannot be trusted blindly. But it’s rarely all or nothing, and there is tangible evidence that Google is a force for good as far as the eye can see. But sometimes we are shown only what we want to reveal. Light has already destroyed
the destructive endgame of the darkness I equate with evil. I’m glad I’m not a professional journalist, because we are all prone to error at times, and I would not want to let my fear of retaliation slow me down, and I have no need to prove the truth, however It may present itself. The truth needs no Defense. A new heavens and new earth. Time to shift our focus and let go of our differences and make a difference in someone else’s life besides our own self interest driving us. Every tree shall be known by its fruit.. so far as I can see, Google is effecting positive change in all of our lives either directly or indirectly. So far so good, Google..

The writers of Google have done an incredible job producing a valuable resource. I use it daily to search scientific and medical research before I have time for search the professional literature and find a new restaurant and get an address and phone number for someone. Those are just a few of the many ways Google makes my life easier. For the people who complain about Google, I say, live without for a day or a week or two and see if your complaint is valid.
I do have a concern but it is not limited to Google. After Facebook's laissez faire toward user's privacy information, I have become more concerned about how social media and technology companies, in general, are collecting and selling our information. This is no different from companies that have collected personal information from warranty cards, requests for information etc . Of course, technology makes the use of information easier and more valuable. We need to be careful about how and when give our information to other people.
Bad form giving me spoilers without a warning
By Tyrel Roberts
I have used the google app for a long time. One of the main reason i use it these days is for the news stories it offers in an easy to read format that are relevant to me and my interests. Recently I noticed the news stories popping up being repetitive, unwanted, and often times inappropriate. I used to be able to swipe to get rid of news stories and I can no longer do that. As silly as it seems, that is extremely annoying. The stories tend to revolve around a topic I may have looked up once and not something I would like to be updated on constantly. Often I’ll read a story only to find it persisting in the feed. I’ll say that I’m not interested in that type of news story only to find it again only labeled under a different “subject”. Most recently it offered a story that offered spoilers on a show I’ve been following. What algorithms google uses to show my stories needs to change. I am close to deleting the app just because of frivolous reasons.
Update: I deleted the app because I hid the SAME STORY 5 times and it kept popping up. I was tired of google forcing me to read what they thought was important rather than what was truly interesting to me.
Great for Googling, not much else
By Hello Person03
I give this app two starts because it has two great attributes, and that’s about it. Of course it’s great for googling, since it gives you millions of results in seconds. And, the feed feature when you open up the app is a wonderful and amazing thing. But there are some MAJOR problems that HAVE TO BE ADDRESSED AND FIXED.
First off, when I’m looking through images, after several minutes they begin to decrease in quality, turning blurry. Then, a short time after that, the images turn white. All of them. And when I try to press the back button, the app crashes! And after it crashes, it doesn’t save my browser history.
Also, when I’m viewing something on the app, and I lock my phone, after unlocking it, I find that I’m on the home screen and the app has crashed. And once again, whichever website I was viewing will be gone and completely absent from my history. This is infuriating and very annoying.
I expect more from an app created by a multi-billion dollar tech company. Please address this and fix it as soon as possible so my Googling experience can improve.
Easy To Use
Love the app. It is easy to use and incredibly smart, with a great voice detection and intuitive results. I love how it's even offered, what I mean is you can get chrome in an app and it's more like a full internet page/provider and has all the bells and whistles but is a little more cumbersome to use (nothing wrong with that because it's a full web port), anyway it's like a full Survace provider and I use it for more detail "web trips" and task. Which makes this app more of a quick and really efficient "quick search" portal when I have a Curiosity or restaurant info as walking downtown and deciding on a whim to try a new restaurant, or even watching a show on TV or my favorite news program in the morning and one a quick answer to something.
Bottom line, it's just a really cool and useful app that I regularly use everyday for a lot of daily task and quick info.
I have loved Google and have used it exclusively for years. I find it’s search results are much more.....cleaner if u will. Idk I can’t stand Bing etc and the first thing I do when I get a new IPhone is download google. I DO have to say they MUST do a better job w security. Idk much abt all of that stuff & won’t claim to, BUT I do know I have recently been hacked and my account was “Frozen” n I had to call this # to speak w someone from Microsoft etc n it was all a SCAM. The next day my feed came up w an article abt how google missed the boat on security and how thousands (+) of ppl were being hacked bc of something google did or didn’t do....etc. They said it was a specific weakness if u have and use google...I won’t lie I switched to bing after it all happened. I only lasted using that a day or two b4 I had to come bck to google. To me it’s the best. I will be much more careful tho from now on 🤷🏻♀️
What I read was that the search engine for the website is a convenience compared to the conventional methods of gathering information. Technology is empowering digital information in all sorts of ways. The developers are to be awarded for this contribution and in helping to transform the paper reduction act. The technical writers have plainly revamped the accessibility to this platform and the internet subscribers have more reasons to read and store information for future generations. I’m an administrator from the eighties and when I was in my classes for documenting and journaling I had courses and cluttered pages all over the room in my dormitory. I have lost title books and handwritten materials, which I consider priceless in today’s time. I’m very forgetful and this is why I’m concerned about content when I surf the internet and access the email ports. Much success to the life of GOOGLING sincerely T.Bailey
Google worst case of customer service
Zero stars—- I went into their app a total of 4 days in a row. I had an issue with something hanging on my account, which was carrying over into another app. So I went into fix my profile. Well, you can’t go in without their annoying computer assistant hounding you to bundle everything you have into all google products, & one big conglomerate- so they can accumulate & mine even more data on you to sell to other apps they don’t own yet. Went the next day, after I told it, & adjusted my settings to delete all activity from the history- cloud- which I didn’t know they kept on me. As far I know, I’d given only one company permission for that 🍎. They deleted nothing. Not one line! The bot tolls me it would affect their other apps too much. Well, I just got angrier & ... by the 4th days problem, I went in, the bot changed my longtime yahoo account to a google account, all the settings, Created a million apps & add-ons while I shouted no & stop & tried to get out of the app. Waited on hold for live help today for 30.. them they hung up on me. Hatred!
