App Reviews

  • I want to love it...

I love Pandora for many reasons, especially since they acquired Rdio and have now built that functionality into their product. I have tried and re-tried all of the major music services and still find myself searching for the right one to spend my money on. I’d say, hands down, that the combo of Pandora’s and Rdio’s algorithms is the best choice for balancing discovery and the songs you want to hear. There have been quirks with the full service offering and the app over the last couple years, but the biggest issue I still run into is how the app handles the transition of WiFi to Cell and vice versa. This is the only music service app that I’ve tried that fails to handle that transition well. If I move from my house to car, I get stoppage that can’t recover and it either skips to the next song in the queue or the app reboots itself, forcing me to take action to continue playing. Even if I’m not playing music and I just switch locations and pull up the app, it has a difficult time pulling up the song that I left off on last. Loading of the next song and keeping up with album covers seems to be an issue too at times, even with a strong connection. This is a bummer. Interface, music management, sound quality, and behavioral algorithm are all mostly great, and having browser access for premium are all pros... it’s just some of the little things such as this bug and a few past ones that keep it from being my go-to.
  • Glitch Fixed, Back To Perfection 👌🏻

As I mentioned in a previous comment, this amazing app was being taken over by an evil glitch. Now that the glitch is fixed, everything is back to normal, i’m back to enjoying all my favorite songs, and discovering new ones. The app is still just as amazing without premium, which I never bothered to try, the app is amazing as it is. And now all that is back. Although there is one thing that I always forgot to mention in my two previous reviews, advertising. The advertisements are not a severe problem, just merely annoying more than anything, you just finished an amazing tune, and then an ad pops up trying to get you to go to Six Flags. I know you cannot remove these, they are necessary, I’m mostly writing this part as a warning to anybody who had the patience to read up to here 😉. Although in the end, we all hate advertisements. 😁 Although I found a glitch in the new update, I am using Pandora on an iPad mini and when I turn off my device while using Pandora and turn it back on the lock-screen is stuck on “Burn by Ellie Goulding” it happened when I was listening to the song and had to leave my device for a moment, and now every time I use Pandora, this glitch happens. I don’t know if it is my device, or your app, thank you for reading my review.

I love this app so much! Pandora has allowed me to listen to all my favorite songs and find new ones to! It's also pretty cool because when I'm in the middle of house work the songs I want to listen just instantly come on! It's magic! (But of course, it's probably because I'm optimistic and positive about almost everything) I also love that new update and how my pandora app has this neat and cool design for it's logo. Five stars for the creativity! But there are some things that I do kinda mind.. the ads for one. Because when I'm listening to my piano music when a go to bed I hear ads come on and then my insomnia kicks in full force. I'm highly sensitive to changes of sounds. That's why I usually always stick with piano and rag time music. (And no I'm not a old) this also means that when I go to listen to some songs that are hard tuned like remixes and Nightcore I usually hear lots of profanity involved, I'm not a huge fan of inappropriate words. Could there be some sort of setting to fix that problem? It's because I personally have P.T.S.D and profanity is one of my triggers next to gore and violence. That's really all I have to say. But overall, it's my most treasured app! (Next to iMessages and camera) I'm an artist at heart so this app truly helps inspirational moods! Keep up the good work!
  • The one thing removed is something I miss

When I chose to add an artist specific station it’s almost always to listen to just that artist (maybe with narrow exceptions, Juliana Hatfield is an example (I also Blake Babies, Some Girls and Juliana Hatfield 3 on there, everting else that came up is thumbed down). I MISS the feature that allowed me to choose less variety. I pay $5.34/month to not get ads, but I’m still thumbing down so much that I’m forced to go to the next station or listen to a song I thumbed down, sometimes relatively soon. Why was this great feature removed? It saved me a lot of thumbing down. The most frustrating thing is it’s actively opposing me keeping a station for an artist. It assumes when I thumb down everything but that one artist that I don’t like the station. That’s not true. On Rush radio I’m thumbing down everything that isn’t Rush or Getty Lee’s solo stuff. On Duran Duran radio, its everything but Arcadia and Duran Duran (never did like power station). I hate getting that ‘Error message’ offering to help me browse stations to my liking. I’ve got 90+/- stations on my app, I just want them to be more narrowly focused (except for the few that by definition broad, “1980’s alternative” (for example). I’d love to get a developer’s response here how to tweak it to not having to thumb down so much. On Tove Lo I have an extreme example (over 1,000 thumb downs and thumb up every Tove Lo song they’ve played so far).
  • What am I paying for??!

This is unbelievable! I can’t believe I am actually being charged for a service that is unusable. I pay monthly for an ad-free Pandora experience. Despite the minor hiccups, I’ve been relatively happy with this app for the past few years. However, with the most recent update, it no longer functions correctly. I have even taken a screencast to show that I’m not crazy or making it up. First, I have to open the app, which automatically freezes. So then I have to swipe out and open again. Then, after a song starts playing, it will suddenly stop like 30 seconds in. Don’t even try connecting to Bluetooth in your car or you’ll be one distracted driver trying to get it play just one song. If I also try to simultaneously use another app, as I have been doing for many years prior, it will now automatically stop playing. What is with these developers who don’t test out the updates before releasing them to the public and losing many LOYAL customers in return?? I am very frustrated and need this issue to be addressed immediately (for a road trip I’m taking) or I will find another radio music app worth my time and money! Ps- My phone and app have all the most recent updates and I have had no other issues with any other app. Previous Review: Love it! I use Pandora every single day. My only gripe is that I wish we could like/dislike songs on the lock screen without having to unlock the phone each time. Other than that, it's a wonderful app that I'm glad to have :-)

I love pandora. It’s about 90% of how I listen to music. I have the Premium subscription too. So I make good use of it. The biggest complaint I have about the premium version, though, is that if I want to look at my stations, I can click the “stations” filter but it won’t give me any sort options. I believe it defaults to recently listened. But I have a LOT of stations. And sometimes I want to find a particular one. It becomes really hard to quickly find something when I haven’t listened to it in a while. If I could sort my stations alphabetically, it would vastly improve the experience. Alphabetical sort is an option on the subscription one level down. Why should I have to downgrade to get what should be a standard feature? It’s backwards. The other thing I wish was an option was the ability to view my subscription details through the app. I do most everything on my phone or tablet through apps. If I want to look at my subscription info, I have to go to the website (the app only shows what kind of account I have). But the mobile (phone web browser version) website just redirects me to the app. So the only way I can see or change or update subscription info is to find a computer to use, which is inconvenient.

Pandora is smart with assuming what music relates to my chosen bands. They are a little narrow in their offerings from any individual band. For example, if choose a “station” called Supertramp I heat Supertramp’s greatest hits over and over again, which is fine, but if I choose a station based on a specific band, it is safe to assume I like more than just their most popular songs. I should hear their entire catalog. If I choose a genre-based station it is okay to play just hits from various bands in that genre, but if I pick a specific band, Pandora should be smart enough to realize I want everything from that band, not just their hit songs. I also have a frequent connectivity issue. I live in a rural area where it is not uncommon to lose cellular coverage and subsequently my Pandora feed. No problem, I understand this is unavoidable. The problem is that when I regain cellular connectivity Pandora often will not reboot. About half the time I have to turn my phone completely off to get Pandora to restart. This is not safe when I am driving so I either have to pull over or live without Pandora until I get to my destination. I have an iPhone 6s with Apple CarPlay in my vehicle. I love Pandora except for these two issues. Thanks, Mike Kingsley

I listen to Ryan Farish radio on Pandora Plus everyday. So relaxing. It has become an addiction. I connect it to my car audio via Bluetooth on the iPhone app and play it on Roku TV while reading, surfing the net and relaxing. I listen to Pandora more than I watch TV. It has a great selection of new age/trance instrumental artists like Ryan Farish (of course), 7 and 5, and Deosil. It throws in some classical, soft jazz, and EDM for variety. Even my bunny likes it! I tried Premium but went back down to Plus. I don’t skip much because it plays most of the music I like that has a thumbs up. I also just like to listen to the music randomly. Most of the songs and artists I like most, could not be replayed or added to playlist on Premium anyways due to licensing. Which is ridiculous considering you’re paying the extra money that should cover this. Another downside is the replay/back button won’t work in the car. I can skip forward using the car’s track button on the steering wheel, but back to replay the song won’t work, especially if the song cannot be replayed because of licensing. I also found the Premium app too confusing. Other than that, love this music. Could listen to it forever.
  • Crap for free and doesn’t get better with premium

Constantly goes offline when I have plenty of service. Now it won’t play the songs on my playlists. I select a song and it chooses a random song from the same playlist. I have premium yet your licensing restrictions require that a lot of the songs I like require to be listened to on the radio part of the app. What’s the point of paying for premium? I’d rather deal with ads. I listen to this app while I’m driving and now with our distracted driving laws in my state this app makes it IMPOSSIBLE for me to get it working if it starts wigging out on me. The offline playlists literally play crap music and only play like four songs. When you go back into service it chooses a playlist for you instead of resuming what you had going in the first place. This app is a total waste of money for premium and a total waste of time and effort for commuters without premium. Like if I want to listen to a song over, sure I will listen to an ad but don’t prompt me 7 times about premium before letting me rewind like seriously how am I supposed to listen and drive when the app is asking you 20 freaking questions. Stop making things more of an effort than they need to be. The other day I selected a song and it started randomly playing other songs on that playlist but then immediately choosing another and another and so on. My songs were on a literal shuffle. Get your life together pandora.
  • Two stars for what Pandora once was...

I’ve been a fairly long time user of Pandora One. The poor performance of this app is almost making me consider leaving them for online radio. First and foremost, here recently the app has been real garbage. Every time I open it it’s either wanting me to sign into Facebook, or sign up for the higher Pandora service. To me that’s a bit insulting as a person that already pays for Pandora One. There aren’t supposed to be ads, and I certainly don’t want to sign into Facebook on Pandora. Here recently it’s been terrible about audio playback too. For example, the other day if I’d switch to another app or if my phone would go to sleep Pandora would quit playing music. An uninstall and reinstall of the app did fix this. Another issue I’ve been having is sometime I’ll get a notification from another app, the music volume turns down for said notification, but then it doesn’t turn the music back up after, making me close the app and reopen it. One other complaint I have is if I pause the music, the app sometimes just plain seems to forget once I hit play if I spent too long on pause. In order to get music to play again I have to go and reopen the Pandora app. Often times whatever song I was enjoying is no longer there. Really discontent with the quality here recently.
