App Reviews

  • Great Learning Tool

    By Creative Chris G
I just started using this app but it seems incredibly polished so far! I’m currently studying the Japanese Hiragana alphabet and this app seems to do a really good job at teaching the different symbols while giving an audio feedback whenever you get it right! The app runs you through multiple techniques for writing the character starting off with guide lines and an example to finally just giving you a blank area and asking you to write it with no reminders. Works very well going from heavily structured to very free flowing learning to see if you have truly memorized the character.
  • Refreshing as a cold shower

Coming from learning languages as a hobby, I was surprised and excited when I discovered an app that focused more on the writing than speech. My memory was bogged down by strokes and slashes; There was something missing in my own methods, something that Scripts provided. For five minutes a day you can learn to your hearts content- truly a masterstroke in design, when time is so readily discarded by distractions and engagements. I recommend this app to anyone looking for a new way to learn a language, but don’t have enough time in the day to sit down and learn one. You won’t be disappointed.
  • good concept but has a few bugs

    By lila:)
I love the Drops app, I’ve been using it to learn Cantonese, so I was excited to see this app roll out. However, I noticed a few issues right away: firstly, the pronunciations for the Hanzi characters are only Mandarin, which makes it hard to correlate with what I’m learning on the other app. Secondly, there are some issues with screen sensitivity. I’m on an iPhone SE, and maybe it’s not optimized for the small screen, but it won’t let me tap all the character parts at the bottom, and some other buttons also seem to not work. Would love to see these issues addressed, and then I would definitely use this app.
  • Awesome Except for Time Constraint

*This app would be one of the best Asian/language learning softwares out there in the apple App Store, IF it did not LIMIT USAGE to 5 minutes per 10 hours. :I **You may as well use alternative apps, and SAVE YOURSELF THE CLUOD/STORAGE SPACE** :( *I’m learning Japanese, on an extremely busy schedule. Which means that I want to do as much studying as possible, whenever my agenda allows. It’s truly too bad that this app only allows me to utilize the tools for FIVE MINUTES ONLY. As soon as you gain the momentum to study, it then cuts you off. *Perhaps the developer believes that people today are too dumb or attention deficient to handle more than 5 minutes a day. Here’s a hint for the developer: your demographic is likely composed of the individuals that are strong willed enough to independently take up a new language in their spare time, rather than game out or mind numb themselves. Give these people some more credit than a degrading assumption that they can only handle 5 minutes of learning, for every 10 hours. Thanks!
  • Not sure how correct this is…

    By nam49
I take Mandarin and school, and I understand it pretty well. I’m not sure if there’s a difference because it’s not Mandarin Chinese or something, because several of the words seem to be incorrect. For example, the app says 又 means also, but technically it means repetitive. 也 would be the correct word for also. This has happened with several other words I’ve seen. Otherwise, it’s a great system and the stroke order seems to be correct.
  • Playing this to learn how to speak and write in Chinese

    By YukheiBaby
Downloaded this because my boyfriend is Chinese, so I thought maybe I could give it a try. When we tried it he thought it was very cute, fun, and actually a bit annoying as it is repetitive. But what does he know, he’s known these words all his life but not me!! I find it really nice, and the interface is great. Keep it up!!!
  • This App Rocks!

    By Hogwars Alumni
I’m an 11 year old girl who has just enrolled in a Mandarin language program. I barely knew any of Mandarin, but I was able to pick up several words during class. One of the hardest parts for me was writing characters! This app traces you along, stroke order, and helps you memorize the characters using simple doodles! If you need character help, this app is perfect for you!
  • Cool Addition to the Dropsverse

    By whatnicknameISNTtaken?
Using the same repetitive behavior and visually clean interface as the main Drops app, this one is even more interactive, as you now have to write/draw. I’ve only ever studied European languages, and I’ve never thought that I could handle either the Cyrillic alphabet used in northern Asia or the “pictograph” alphabet used in Southern Asia, but an app like this gives me hope that I can.
  • Drops

    By Maxxy maxwell
I was already a fan of drops, I use it along with several other apps to help me learn. With scripts my handwriting in my target language has already improved with only one session, which is a godsend because my handwriting is utter trash. The only thing I’m not a huge fan of is the price, but for now, the free version works for me :).
  • Really well designed

    By JLU002291729
This app is what every app should be: Looks good, flows smoothly, does what it advertises effectively. Only criticism I have is that time spent on one word is perhaps a little too long, especially for the easy words for when you start out. Overall though, I like the app a lot and I will continue using it.
