App Reviews

  • Overall not a bad app

    By tvl2tr
I’ve only had the app for about a month and so far, I haven’t had the issues others have had. That being said, I do have a couple of problems with the app. The first problem is that it doesn’t give you all the shows “playing now” if you want to watch live. You have to go to the guide to get all the shows playing. I have many channels marked “favorite” in the guide and under the view all shows available for watching live filter, only half of those channels are given to choose from. The second problem is the recording option. I understand this feature is in beta testing right now but DirectTV NOW needs to fix what is, at least to me, a problem in this feature. I’ve used the recording feature twice on the same show. The first time I recorded an episode, the app missed the first five minutes of the episode but recorded five minutes past the end of the episode. The next time I used the recording feature, the app started recording eight minutes BEFORE the scheduled episode started and then it cut off BEFORE the episode ended. I have this feature scheduled to record again one more time. It will be interesting to see how this recording turns out. I’m giving this app ⭐️⭐️⭐️because, overall, it does what it’s supposed to do; I just wish it would do it better than average because it has the potential to be better than average.
  • Horrible

    By Apollo525252512
I’ve had other streaming services and this is by far the worst. I got it because I’m a att customer and it was a little cheaper then the rest. Only it wasn’t. First I’m suppose to get hbo for free. And get a discount for being a att unlimited plan member. After 3 months and chatting with cs numerous times they never applied either even though every time I talked to them they said they fixed the issue. And you can only chat with them through msgs on a internet chat. No number to call. Went to att store and they told me even though they started the account there they couldn’t make changes. Said the best thing to do would be to create a new account which I did. 3 months later I still don’t have hbo and they still haven’t seen the discount I’m suppose to receive. I literally just got done talking to support who assured me they had made the changes and that I would now have hbo and the discount. Still have neither. So over 6 months, two accounts, and talking with at least 8 customer service reps, going up to att which sold me the deal, I still have the same unresolved issues. I’m not sure if they are that bad at their jobs or just lying but wow. I am quitting service and deleting app. If you where smart you’d pass on this app and save yourself the headache and just try a different service provider.
  • Absolute Garbage

    By Bill2go
I was okay with this app, BEFORE the latest updates. The updates changed the background color of every page, including the guide to a blinding, bright, white color. I can’t even read the text that’s overlaying the bright backgrounds. They even changed the sleek looking old black app icon to a white color. These white backgrounds are extremely hard on the eyes, especially if you’re trying to watch something or view the guide in a dark room. I’m convinced that whoever designed this app has absolutely no experience with iOS app design or cable TV. This app is like something designed by an elementary school student building their first science project. It’s a total disaster. It’s unreliable, hard to navigate, not one bit user-friendly. Most of all though, I’m canceling my subscription due to the white backgrounds in the latest update. It’s like trying to stare at the sun. If they bring back the black backgrounds, I might reconsider using this service. But, for now, if you want a reliable, well-designed, user-friendly streaming app/service, keep looking. DirecTV Now is the worst I’ve seen. However, if you do decide to give it a try, against my recommendations, put your sunglasses on. The bright, white backgrounds on the guide and every other page will burn out your retinas. Very disappointed!
  • Chromecast support is here finally

    By Supermario 27
Updated: Chromecast support for iOS is finally here! I'm upgrading the stars from 2 to 3 there's still bugs that need to be ironed out with iOS Chromecast support but the it's headed in the right direction. As someone who's used this service since the first 30 days of its startup. The service has become more and more reliable. Still far from perfect but improvements have been noticed. Filed a FCC complaint in the early stages of the service which was resolved quickly with a 3 month credit ( Go Big plan) and free HBO for a year. If you were a early adopter you pay $35 currently now $60. As far as the app like I mentioned with each update it's getting better and better. Your problem is you have a lot of "cord cutters" here and majority use Chromecast but the iOS version supports no such thing website says coming soon for months, airplay only. While google play version has it. Now I'm assuming they had some sort of exclusivity with Apple during the promotional free Apple TV with 3 months prepaid. That promotion is now OVER. CAN WE PLEASE HAVE CHROMECAST SUPPORT ON IOS?! 2 stars until then. Otherwise keep improving the other aspects of the app like you are.
  • Needs a little more tweaking

I have had the Direct Tv Now streaming service for about a year. I got this when it advertised it along with Apple TV offer. I haven’t used it an awful lot but when ever I do I have had Now issues with streaming. I recently found it on my Samsung Smart TV. I moved the Apple TV to a second TV and am pleased with that as well. My present TV provider requires you to rent additional TV boxes as well as then main Box. With DTVNow all I need is my internet. I use cat 5 wiring instead of WiFi. My upload is about 11mb and down load around 100mb. I have no issues watching. I recently found they have included our 2 local news channels. That is when I decide to add starz. Not really satisfied with that add as I was looking for the older westerns. CS said they are working on it and gave me free three months. I have not had any issues contacting CS through chat. That is my preferred way. If the older westerns are added I would be able to make the cut from our current TV Provider and be able to save about $65.. a month. It would be nice to be able to stream on more then just two devices at a time. I am hoping that will come along eventually.
  • Sub-par app, disappointing

    By AndyofATX
I purchased the direct tv now so I could get the Apple 4k. Thought it would be a good opportunity to get some tv as well. Streaming is glitchy but works, nice selection of movies and tv shows. Also it doesn’t receive my ATT account l, I have the highest speed Internet from ATT would thing they’d go hand in hand or provide some type of benefit for using the two together. Biggest disappointment is the amount of ads, why pay for this service with so many ads. I could see it being an ad in the beginning or at the end but not 5 or 6 within the content I’m watching. Not to mention that on some of these movies the fast forward and rewind functions are disabled... why though? Especially since I had to close the app in the middle of a movie, guess what, had to start the movie from the beginning again, wouldn’t even resume where I left off. Some of the tv series don’t have the full current seasons. What’s the point of this app if it doesn’t do what it should? For the amount charged I’d expect a lot more from this, sad thing is I’m just starting and I already can tell it’s not going to get any better. We’ll see how well it does from the Apple TV when it actually arrives.
  • A solid 4

    By Omaha20
For streaming cable this is a great app. You can watch it on your phone, Roku (in which they offer free), computer so on and so forth. The service isn’t perfected because it’s so new but I truly believe this is the future of cable. No cable box, live tv and on demand at a very reasonable price. One of the things that bothered me most was that the app didn’t have basic tv channels that are provided with basic cable or an antenna. They have since updated and added two basic channels. ABC was already there. This is still new to me so I’m learning new things the more I watch. I don’t like the fact that when you’re going through the guide it turns off the sound/no picture 95% of the time. Commercials are super loud. If your internet has a hickup it may interrupt your show. Sometimes while your watching the app on Roku it stops and takes you back to the Roku home page. Often times when this happens while watching on demand and you have to start your show over again. Supposedly an update is coming. Also there’s every NBC channel aside from just regular NBC. I may edit this, remove or add things as the app updates.
  • Improving

    By CCmama1
The app itself is not very user friendly as of now. the guide is very glitchy, so most of the time you have to close the app out completely and open again to get it to work. Since they’re only adding the direct tv now app to the new Apple TVs and not the older versions, I usually use the app on my phone and mirror it to my Apple TV (mainly because the app on the fire stick I have was awful, but that’s recently improved dramatically) BUT I can no longer watch my recorded shows that way. I keep getting an error message when I try. I feel like they are getting ahead of themselves with the updates, always adding “new features” before making sure the current features work as they’re supposed to. The monthly plans seem pretty reasonable. With the discount we get from our phone plan it’s even better. So for $25 a month I’ll wait out the updates. The BEST feature of the direct tv now is that you can log into other channel apps (fox, abc, cbs etc.) free and watch all the on demand shows there. Since we don’t have local channels live where we are this is the only way I watch the shows on those channels.
  • Great way of watching live tv over the internet with awesome picture quality.

    By Partizanovac
I really like the app on my iOS devices as well as my Apple TV 4K. If you need more then 2 streams they charge you 5.99 a month extra for a 3rd stream hopefully they add that 3rd stream free in the nearest future since there other competitors include it for free. The picture quality is like 4K especially when you have a 4K Tv. I have att 100 speed internet and it works real good just that here and there it buffers I hope they stabilize the viewing experience which they will. And what I like is that it’s free to watch on your iOS devices to view directvnow as the data is free which is awesome. And as of the other day 2017 and 2018 Samsung tv’s have the option to be able to watch directvnow over the smart tv’s. That’s awesome. Just that it would be awesome to be able to watch directvnow while at home while using WiFi for free if you are a customer of there’s as in having there phone service internet and directvnow.
  • Not good for families

    By Reeves9554
In today’s electronic culture, AT&T (Directv Now owner) is so unrealistic about how families operate. They only allow 2 devices to concurrently stream. If you need more than that, they tell you to open another account at double the monthly costs. Tell 2 teenagers, a husband and myself that you have to agree on two programs and that the teens cannot lie in their rooms and watch on their phone/laptop is totally out of touch with current reality. Directv wants you to cut the cord and then tethers you to two streams. Netflix has a premium family plan and Sling has an upgrade blue plan that allows 3 streams. Why can’t Directv Now do the same? I’d gladly pay an extra monthly charge to up the number to 4 streams, but I can’t afford to double my bill with two accounts. Charge me $10 or $15 a month for a family plan with at least 4 streams, and I’ll gladly change this to a 5-Star rating. My other issue with the service is that it is not listed as a tv provider in many of the broadcast apps which removes much of the ability to watch programs on demand. I have contacted several of those channels, and they responded that the problems rests with Directv Now.
