App Reviews

  • Like a book club with authors

I said to myself, do I really need another book app? Of course I do. This one is really unique because you can make a book list and it doesn't have to be books you want to read vs. books you already read or anything like that, you can just save books and organize it any way you like. That might not work for some Type As here but hey, you already have goodreads. This app is great for browsing books, and finding something new. Someone described it as being in a book club with authors, and that's totally true, because you get to see what authors are recommending!

I have seen reviews for this app that say that this app is the best book club app ever, that it is just the most amazing book app, but I’m sorry, I don’t think so. Maybe I’m just using it wrong, but apparently this app is 4 yrs and up. I AM being a little nit picky, but if it is, it should have an age recommendation- I’m 13 and my favorite author is Rick Riordan. However (and this is SO annoying to me) he is not on the app. Like, I looked him up and got no result. I was getting recommendations for authors I didn’t even know existed, who were probably adult authors. I think that the app definitely needs this one feature (age recommendation) and that would fix all of my issues. Other than this, the app seems to run very smoothly and be user friendly.

Finally, a book app for true bibliophiles!! ReadThisNext has a more minimalist type layout, and unlike most book apps or websites, you can actually see the book covers, which is important to me because I am a huge book nerd and I love physical books. I link together the book cover and the book in my head and it helps me remember what the book is about, it's really important to me to make that visual connection with the book cover. The makers of this app seem to get books in a way that not many app makers do. I love it!!!
  • Really well designed

I have a goodreads account but never use it but this app is so much better designed, it's more simple and doesn't get bogged down with a lot of features. You just post what you're reading, see what other people are reading, and you're done! I am going to recommend this book app to all my #bookstagram friends and book clubs (yes, I am in multiple book clubs!) Also, I've sent suggestions to the founder and they responded back right away, which was really cool!
  • Needs Work

Good idea, bad execution. There are about ten authors to follow, which is incredibly limited. You have to sign up before browsing, but that’s a personal pet peeve. My biggest issue is that it relies almost entirely on user uploads. What’s the point of an app for books that doesn’t have even a semblance of a database. After attempting to put in three different titles I was currently reading, none of which are “indie” by any means, I️ quickly realized that the developers didn’t even attempt to create a database. This app is more of an attempt at making a social media app for reading, which it doesn’t do well either.

You should download this app, it's like a book club in your pocket! I first heard about this app in the Kickstarter campaign and knew they were doing something with author blurbs and I was really amazed how it all came together, I like that they included author book recommendations and you can also post what you're reading to keep track too. Goodbye goodreads reading challenge, hello Read This Next!
  • Great for finding new books

What I really like about the app is the book feed. I really like to see what others are reading and their take on it; I find it super helpful. The explore section is really interesting too. The author blurbs seems like a really interesting way to find books too, it shows what books actual authors are reading and recommend.
  • Best book app for fiction readers

This is an amazing app for finding a good book to read quickly, if you're going on a trip or have a long weekend coming up. It can be hard to find a fiction book to read and ReadThisNext has lots of good YA, literary fiction, celeb memoir and more, all varieties. Check it out, the app is getting better and better all the time!
  • An insider peak into your favorite author's book recommendations

ReadThisNext is a novel idea that recommends books based on what authors are reading. I like that you can see any author's recommendations by searching for them, and you can save books to your reading list. It's much prettier than other book apps!
  • Interesting idea, poorly executed

It sounds great, but the UI is a hot mess. “Following” an author doesn’t take, and authors show up and fall off the recommendation list willy-nilly. If there’s any way to refine your list, it’s buried behind the social nonsense. Add to that that there isn’t even a simple way to access a database of book covers, relying instead on user picture uploads. This makes for a wildly inconsistent experience, especially since the feed relies on these for readers to identify the titles.
